It has been a bit quiet around here and if you’re following me on Instagram than you will know that I was away exploring Lisbon and the beautiful island of Madeira. Since travelling is a great way to get use to having a capsule wardrobe if you like the idea, but you’re not sure you can manage, I thought I would share my tips on how I compiled my travel capsule wardrobe.
01. THINK ABOUT YOUR ACTIVITIES
Whenever I’m compiling a new seasonal capsule wardrobe I keep my lifestyle in mind. But on holiday sometimes your activities can be quite different from your usual (working) days. For instance, on my next trip I plan on doing a lot of hiking.
You really need to research the place you’re going. What’s the weather like when you’re visiting? Be conscience of the activities you’ll be doing while you’re there. Are you visiting religious sites? Will you be going out in the evenings? Ask yourself these questions and you’ll have a clear view of what variety is necessary for your travel capsule wardrobe to work.
03. PICK YOUR TRAVEL STYLE
Next you want to think about your travel style. Is it going to be different to your usual everyday style? Whether you’re working with a seasonal capsule or not— it can be really useful to select a colour palette for your travel capsule. That way styling becomes easier. You’ll also be looking at shapes and fits. Which items compliment each other?
03. PLAN YOUR OUTFITS
The most exciting and challenging thing is to plan your outfits. Now I’m not to strict with this, but I like to check if I can make enough outfits with my items. For instance, I would like to have an outfit for exploring the city and it needs to be versatile enough for regular to slightly warmer weather.
04. MAKE A LIST
When I’m packing I always like to use a checklist to make sure I don’t leave anything out. If you would like to see my checklist, just comment below and I will upload it!
I will do separate post on the outfits that I could make with my travel capsule wardrobe in the coming days.
