I’m never really one to make New Year’s Resolutions or define clear goals, but as I’m getting older and my life is vanishing before my eyes (being a bit dramatic here), I want to live life to the fullest!
2016 has been an exciting year for me, in which I have said yes to a lot of things. I feel more focused and more than anything: 2016 has taught me that experiences are most important for me. What it boils down is simple… time. Time gives me freedom and therefore I have to use it wisely so I have set some goals for 2017!
In 2016 I visited different places in Europe and was even lucky enough to visit the Caribbean. In 2017 I hope to do a lot of traveling as well and my first two trips are already planned. As much as I love Europe and there’s still plenty see for me here, I would love to go overseas again and see more of the world. I hope to make at least four (small) trips this year.
Make lasting memories
One of my friends mentioned to me: ‘How often do you spend time with friends and family catching up about life, without making new experiences?’ 2017 is going to be all about making lasting memories for me and I want to actually do things! I’m really going to make an effort in seeing people and making new memories together.
In 2017 I want to continue to save money. I’ve made a few saving goals: an emergency and health fund, a travel fund and an investment and retiring fund. I’ve set goals for each of these and after my salary comes in, it will automatically transfer money into my savings account. The only challenge left is to stay away from that money 🙂
As much as I learned in 2016 in regards to work and my personal life, I want to make an effort to learn or improve an actual skill. I want to improve my English and as a graphic designer who has fully converted to online marketing, I want to work on creating new designs.
Read a book a month
I used to read a lot, but nowadays I’m easily caught up in the Internet. My goal for 2017 is to read a book each month, whether that be a fictional or non-fictional book. To start off January, I’m reading Eat the Frog, a book I can recommend to anyone who procrastinates like me.
Find other sources of income
This comes from the realization that time is the most important thing I have. At the moment I’m working in a full time job, but I don’t see myself working a 40 hour a week job for the rest of my life. I have dreams that require money and therefore it’s important for me to find other sources of income besides my job.
All in all, what I want to achieve in 2017 is to live a more conscious life. I don’t want to waste time or money. I want to make conscious decisions on how I spend my time and where I spend my money on. In order to do so, I will make a regular effort to reflect on my goals and to check whether I’m spending my time and money on the right things.
